The Host & the Story

Kamal El Sahili – Proud Resident of Rachaya, Lebanon My name is Kamal El Sahili, a Lebanese native born and raised in Rachaya. I have dedicated my life to serving and advancing this historic town, participating multiple times in the municipality to support its development. My social work and efforts have made my home a popular destination for visitors, journalists, athletes, and others, thanks to Rachaya’s strategic location, hospitality, and rich cultural heritage. Rachaya is located in the Rashaya District in western Lebanon, perched about 1,200 meters above sea level on Mount Hermon’s slopes. It’s renowned for the Mount of Haramoun, believed by many scholars to be the possible site of the Transfiguration of Jesus, and for its beautiful winter snowfalls that attract tourists annually. The town is also famous for the Rashaya Citadel, a symbol of Lebanon’s independence, where Bshara El Khoury was imprisoned in 1943. In 2008, inspired by the town’s significance, I co-founded a guesthouse with support from USAID. Since then, it has become a welcoming retreat for visitors seeking to experience the beauty and history of Rachaya. My ongoing passion remains to meet new people, share our culture, and promote Rachaya as a distinguished destination.
