The Experience

Nestled in a little valley overlooking the Mediterranean near the town of Thoum, Beit al Batroun Bed & Breakfast is a haven of peace, a countryside retreat on the Lebanese sea coast—and only a 40-minute drive from Beirut. Beit al Batroun is a labour of love for owner Colette Kahil, who brought to life a dream 10 years in the making. Working alongside architect friend Wadih Chehaybar, Colette drew up a house influenced by traditional Lebanese rural constructions, with rooms and sitting spaces articulated around a spacious central liwan. Built using upcycled materials collected for years from around the world, including doors, beams, tiles, and a myriad of furniture, Colette’s interior design relies on an intuitive marriage of restored vintage pieces, innovative design ideas, and hand crafts – Colette is herself a mosaicist.
